Fashion Consultant sues Britney

Britney Spears has reportedly been sued by her former fashion consultant, Nancy Rosu, for failing to pay for her services. Rosu, who is based in Las Vegas, is suing Britney for more than US $50,000 for the outstanding bill and emotional distress. The arrangement between them was that the consultant would purchase clothing for Britney and she would then get reimbursed for the goods when Britney would receive them. The pop star allegedly ceased payments in August 2007, a year after their contract began, and Rosu's lawyer has apparently stated that if Britney settles her bill, the matter will be dropped. Interesting! Does that bill include the figure for 'emotional distress'?

Cheap is Chic

The British are avid fashion followers but when it comes to spending their money, they don't like to break the bank for the sake of looking good. A survey that was carried out by Mintel stated that 30% of shoppers prefer to pay as little as possible for clothing so, it's not a surprise that the value clothing market in the UK has grown by 45% in the last 5 years. Low-cost fashion in the UK reached £6.3 billion last year and by 2012, it is expected to hit £8.7 billion. As being fashionable is more important than the price tag, it is not surprising that shops like Primark and Topshop are raking in the profits.

Valentino's Sour Farewell

Valetino Caravani presented his final Haute Couture Show (Spring/Summer 2008) in Paris last week but left us all with a bitter aftertaste. I am not referring to his haute couture show as it was exceptional but I wouldn't say the same for his remarks. He critisised the fashion industry and went on to explain how it was now ruined because there is no creativity anymore and he was bored with it. He took swings at Italian designers Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Donatella Versace and Prada as they are all flawed in some way, according to his words. Thankfully, we will not remember him for his comments but his beautiful gowns and especially the red dresses that he dressed his models in for the finale.

It's a Fashion Steal

Trendy Prahan (Melbourne, Australia) store 'Stevie' got a surprise visit last night from a male who forced his way into the shop after hours and helped himself to AU $20,000 worth of freebies. His accomplice, a wheelie rubbish bin, was filled up with clothes and accessories... and even returned for seconds. Perhaps, he wanted to emulate Britney in 'kitson' the other night except, the LA boutique staff were expecting her and though she too got everything for free, she didn't have to go in hiding afterwards. Fortunately, the store was fitted with cameras so, he will have to cough up the goods once he's caught. But, Lyndon McGauchie, the owner and designer of the 'Stevie' label should feel really proud that even thieves recognise his talent. Check out Stevie online.

Heath Ledger ...Gone

Today, I will not write about fashion as Australia is in mourning over the loss of our talented actor, Heath Ledger, who sadly passed in a New York apartment at 28 years of age. MARRIA Fashion Blog would like to offer its condolences to the family and closest friends. Heath Ledger was the regular Aussie guy who conquered Hollywood so, he was living the dream that many young Australians aspire towards and everyone is in a state of shock because these dreams are not supposed to come to a screaching halt. Since his split from partner, Michelle Williams (the mother of his 2 year old daughter Matilda), Heath Ledger had been linked to Australian supermodel, Gemma Ward.

London Fashion Weekend

London Fashion Weekend is a biannual shopping event that takes place at the end of each London Fashion Week. With 150 designer labels at bargain prices and the latest trends on show, it's not surprising that this event is always a success. It's a great day out with a Catwalk Theatre for news on the latest fashion, hair care advice from Toni & Guy, beauty tips from Elizabeth Arden and manicures from Revlon. The event is on at The Natural History Museum (South Kensington, London) from 20th-24th February, 2008. Tickets are available from £10 (AU $22 / US $20) at www.londonfashionweekend.co.uk.

Hillary snubs Vogue

Anna Wintour (US Vogue editor) was surprised to hear that Hillary Clinton, the only US female presidential candidate, snubs Vogue. Wintour believes that the days of the powersuit are over and that today's women can show their feminine side and still stand on equal ground with the men. Hillary's team don't seem to agree. Admittedly, Hillary's suits do not flatter her figure and she could benefit from a little bit more shape but can you begin to imagine what would happen if Hillary was showing cleavage and legs? Perhaps, Hillary's feminine side will shine through...the day after the election.

The Summer of Tennis Fashion

......
Rafael Nadal.................Justine Henin

Venus Williams

We are well into January, the New Year's resolutions are in place, it's a hot Summer Down Under and it's the Tennis season. You can understand then why this is my favourite time of the year. Australian tennis has it all. You get to watch the matches, the fashion and the bling. The Australian Open 2008 saw Marcos Baghdatis and Marat Safin play an amazing match last night but I will not focus on the ball playing but rather the on-court fashion for now.
Don't you think Rafael Nadal looks sensational in his creation by Nike and don't you think he has been flexing his biceps way too often since he's been wearing that sleeveless top?
Adidas designed a classic looking outfit with interesting details for Justine Henin, who is happily strutting a more feminine look this year. Take note of the tie on the back of her top.
Sure, I know what you're thinking. It would be rude of me to not take a moment to mention our blingers who always like to make a statement on the court and this year have opted for sparkling jewellery. For those of you who aren't in the know, I am talking of course about the Williams sisters who bling all the way to their matches and all the way to the bank. Watch those earlobes, girls!
