Australian Fashion Week In Full Swing

Miranda Kerr, Simon Lock, Megan Gale

Australian Fashion Week officially opened on Monday with Kirrily Johnston. She presented a drapey collection and a Greco-Roman look that didn't seem to have impressed everyone. As this was the opening act, the pressure was on and although the show seemed to lack the pow on the runway, it redeemed itself with some wow in the front row.

Kate Sylvester - A model wearing the fake war medals

Day 2 stalled at the Kate Sylvester show (titled 'Royally Screwed') as the New Zealand designer was accused of disrespecting our war veterans because models walked the runway wearing fake war medals. The show was to express the passion and obsession with monarchy by using such items and others like replica tiaras, sashes and crowns. It managed to upset our returned servicemen who were honoured on the 25th April (ANZAC Day) for their brave work so, Sylvester apologised for her little blooper.

Fashion Week peaked at the Alex Perry show where his front row was star studded and reminiscent of a red carpet event. To top it off, his glamorous show had something in it for everyone. The plethora of styles would've appealed to most, with my personal favourite being the layered dress pictured.

On Day 3, Flamingo Sands were talked about not only for their swimwear but for their great goodies bags. They gave their guests recycled rice and FEED bags that were dyed pink. For those of you that aren't familiar with FEED; Buying one FEED bag feeds a child in school for one year and they were created by Lauren Bush in association with the United Nations to put an end to world hunger.

..... .....

Finally, the evening was illuminated with 'Rainbow Coalition', the amazing show by Easton Pearson. It was fresh, innovative and colourful. They certainly get my vote.
