The Standardisation of Sizes
There needs to be a global standardisation for apparel and shoe sizes. Manufacturers and fashion houses should not be permitted to have their own interpretations. This stunts the growth of the fashion industry. Companies still fail to understand that sales suffer a great deal, as well as emotions. Consumers are not aware of their sizes as they differ from one label to another. High fashion customers find that their dress sizes increase yet in many less expensive labels, they fit into smaller sizes. Currently, one of the biggest issues for companies as the result of non-standard sizing is the loss of online sales. When customers are not aware of their sizes, they will avoid purchasing clothes or shoes online. Consumers are time conscious today and the internet has become their favourite shopping mall. Now, consider the increasing number of internet sales and tell me why companies are not fighting for a standardisation of sizes.
Something to consider:
It doesn't matter if the numbering is
different, as long as the size remains the same and accurate in the
conversions.
A shoe size should look like the following example:
Womens UK 5 = EU 38 = AU 8 = US 7.5 = JP 24.5
Currently, this is not
the case and some of the biggest offenders in shoe sizing are sneaker
manufacturers.
